Solar energy can be made use of in different ways. We have solar water heaters, solar cookers, solar photovoltaic cells, and other ‘solar’ this and that. Solar water heaters and solar cookers may use concave parabolic reflectors to concentrate the heat rays of the sun onto a particular spot, and use the intense heat generated to provide hot water. Have you ever heard of solar engines with curved mirrors?

Well, here is an innovation that makes use of solar energy very effectively. Touted to be the most power efficient solar energy distiller, the SunCatcher is a sunlight collector that concentrates the heat rays over a Power Conversion Unit (PCU). It generally comprises a radial dish that acts as the collector. There is an array of curved mirror facets that continuously track the sun. The concave mirrors reflect the light rays from sun (infinity) to their focus point. There is a boom that supports the Power Conversion Unit at the mirror’s focus, and the whole setup is supported on a facet support structure with a movable pedestal.

The Power Conversion Unit is quite similar to an Internal Combustion Engine. In an IC Engine, the burnt fuel supplies heat energy to the air inside the cylinder. This heat causes a pressure which in turn moves the piston. Here, in a PCU, the heat source is the giant SunCatcher and a four-cylinder system is used. The solar receiver tubes of the PCU are filled with hydrogen gas. The PCU is directly heated by the intense sun rays and this heat causes an expansion of hydrogen, and the pressure owing to the expansion moves the piston back and forth and powers the engine.

This power is purely mechanical. To convert this into electrical energy, a dynamo or an alternator is coupled to the shaft of the solar engine. The PCU functions as a heat exchanger. The cooling process is simpler than that of an IC engine. The gas is recycled and used again.

This is an amazing invention and has great potential. The capacity of a normal SunCatcher is about 25kWe (kilowatt-electrical).

All these years, reality television has existed, making waves for all the wrong reasons, with no significant purpose or aim. However, at a time when only Television Rating Points (TRPs) matter, there is one show that has redefined modern reality television. Using volunteers from across America as the principal characters, ‘The Colony’, a new reality show on The Discovery Channel has won critical acclaim and rave reviews for its practical view of everything that is around us. Based on a post-apocalyptic theme, ‘The Colony’ couldn’t have come at a better time. There is a greater focus on renewable sources of energy in ‘The Colony’, and it leaves the viewer completely in awe.

New experimental show from Discovery

Although ‘The Colony’ has been classified as a reality show, it really is not. It is more of an experiment that aims to study the reaction of people to a potentially disastrous viral pandemic outbreak, and how people come to terms with the aftermath of the disaster. The experiment is based in Los Angeles, California. Until now, five episodes have been aired, and each one of them deals with the basic components required for survival.

Initially, ‘The Colony’ starts off with only six volunteers, who are kept awake for about three days with little food and water. Then, they are given fifteen minutes in a department store to find and carry as many tools and resources that they can find. Soon enough, marauders and robbers are sent to rob these volunteers of their supplies. After that, the volunteers drag their supplies down the Los Angeles River for about ten miles, before they arrive at their ‘sanctuary’; an abandoned 80,000 square foot warehouse.

This warehouse contains some basic tools, used batteries and a lot of useful stuff along with small quantities of food and water. The actual experiment starts right here, and the volunteers can survive only if they use their resources efficiently and effectively.

The participants of the Discovery show The colony

One begins to understand the concept as one watches the first episode. After an introduction to the experiment, this episode “Arrival and Survival” focuses on how the volunteers adapt themselves to a sudden change in their lifestyle. The primary requirement of these volunteers is a proper supply of water, and they begin to search for water. The Los Angeles River is quite close to the warehouse, but the river water is highly polluted and mixed with effluents. The volunteers now attempt to construct a simple water filter using layers of sand and charcoal, before boiling the filtered water.
As the volunteers settle down, they try to get their basics right. They make shoes out of Styrofoam; assemble a make-shift bed; repair the toilets; and plan on security.
As a part of the experiment, four new volunteers arrive with only their clothes, and the existing volunteers are hesitant to welcome them with open arms. However, they are let in, and together, they start working on the other essential projects like a coffee machine, a rainwater storage system, and an array of batteries daisy chained to one another and connected to an inverter to produce a small amount of power.

In the second part of the series “Power Struggle”, the volunteers realize that the power that they have is not sufficient. As the narrator often says “The backgrounds and skills of these volunteers represent a cross section of modern society”, they put to use all of their skills and energy to innovate, and in essence, to survive. There is a handyman, a computer engineer, a machinist, a marine biologist, a mechanical engineer, an Emergency Room nurse, a martial arts instructor, a contractor, an aerospace engineer, and a doctor. Of these people, my favorite character is John Cohn, called John C by his co-volunteers. He is a 49 year old computer engineer in IBM, and his ideas are practical and useful. After the volunteers find an old pressure washer in the warehouse, handyman Mike looks for an alternator to connect to the shaft of the pressure washer by a pulley to produce electricity. However, the fuel in the pressure washer is very less, and so, they build a wood gasifier to use wood gas to power the pressure washer engine. This is John C’s idea, and it works out! This show is all about survival and how dearth of resources can bring out the creativity in a person. These volunteers use the generated power for some basic lighting. They go out of the warehouse and into the city and find some food, but they find some marauders on motorbikes who try to steal their food. These marauders are part of this controlled experiment and their purpose is to see if there’s unity among the volunteers in a post-apocalyptic scenario.

In the third episode “Comfort in Chaos”, the volunteers focus on creature comforts. Joey, the contractor gets to work and builds a small shower that has water heated by solar energy in a shrink-wrapped black water tank. However, Joey needs more power to run his electric saw. Therefore, handyman Mike attaches a second alternator to the pressure washer to increase electricity output. Amy, the marine biologist makes a fish net and some of the volunteers head to the river to catch fish. They find other food as well, and this discovery keeps the morale of the volunteers high. They ignore Dr George’s security warnings and as a result of this, marauders and thieves surprise them with an attack and the volunteers lose a significant amount of food.

In the fourth part “Safety and Security”, the volunteers, shaken by the nighttime intrusion strengthen the perimeter of the warehouse with reinforcements. They board up exits and work on new weapons. Leilani, the martial arts instructor makes a punching bag, and a mini gym is formed. The other volunteers work on an old truck that could possibly serve as their escape vehicle. However, there is tension all around, and a lot of yelling. Tempers are hard to control. They have a surprise visitor in a group of armed traders, with whom they barter goods and power equipment.

The colony sets up the solar panels

In the fifth episode “A Stranger Among Us”, Mike and the others look for renewable energy sources. They find solar panels, and make a solar tracking system. John V, the machinist builds a pedal-powered washing machine. The unity among the volunteers is again tested when two new colonists arrive with a key to the warehouse and stake their claim to all the food and water.

This is just an outline of the first five episodes. You’ve got to watch it yourself to believe it. It’s more than just a television show. It’s an educational program. To watch these people build solar rigs and gasifiers out of limited material is simply amazing. The Discovery Channel has hit the bull’s eye once again with the super-informative ‘The Colony’.

“The world is warming up to something spectacular”, “Will the 2012 London Olympics provide more opportunities for swimmers, since most of London will be under water?”, and “Polar bears need air conditioners”, are some of the quotes that are doing the rounds on the Internet. All the above pertain to a single issue: Global Warming.

Everyone today, has a tip or two at hand, to contribute less to Global Warming. People say it boils down to every single human on this earth. True enough. But can one do it effectively? Will one benefit personally from doing so? The answer is yes.
However, there is a more compelling reason to start saving energy. Your own bills!

David Anderson the author of DIY energy saving kit

The DIY Energy Saving Kit looks at the concept of saving energy from an entirely different perspective. Its objective is to help a person save his/her money, through means that are unbelievably simple. The kit is replete with an energy audit guide and customized audit forms.

Many people don’t know where to start saving energy and money. The guide on Energy Saving Tips offers various answers. It could be a wall, the attic, an AC, or anything!
One should start with the Professional Energy Audit Guide. It is an exhaustive ‘document’, and one needs to be no rocket scientist to understand it. It is filled with diagrams, and useful tips. For instance, the fact that most electronic appliances consume a small amount of power even in standby mode is unknown to most people. The energy lost is small, but significant. This is just an example.

For those nerds and geeks who still miss their science classes, this guide describes some measuring instruments, like the IR thermometers in detail. This guide encourages you to take up Russell Crowe’s character in ‘A Beautiful Mind’, but only to find ‘hidden’ energy holes that can lead to significant losses! The guide takes you through the concept of an audit, advanced audit tests, and various methods to collect energy loss data.

Once the data has been collected, there is a set of energy cost workbooks that has been provided. For people who want to catch up on their mathematics, there is bad news!
There are no formula in these workbooks. No complicated patterns. Everything is customized to help the user do a complete energy audit in the easiest way possible.

‘Developing an Energy Savings Plan’ provides audit forms, and energy usage charts. These charts tabulate the energy usage of household electric and electronic appliances. The modified charts to help the user reduce the energy usage, and the calculations can be understood by even a fourth grader! The examples provided are germane and succinct.

Now, let’s go through all these workbooks.
At first sight, an energy audit form looks like an insurance form, or even a SWOT analysis form. But these forms are extremely effective. Only when one starts filling in, does one realize that these are details that are explicit, but often forgotten. When one organizes all the factors, it becomes very easy to analyze.
There are four kinds of workbooks that have been provided. A cost workbook, an energy loss workbook, a heating estimator and a workbook that calculates heat loss through ducts, have been filled in with formulae, and all one has to do is enter the data, and Presto!. The calculations are over!

The cost workbook deals with the energy usage of appliances that are used daily, and appliances, that are used only occasionally. One has to fill in the data obtained earlier, and the workbook gives you the total cost, cost per billing cycle, and cost per month. One interesting feature is that this workbook can be used anywhere in the world, and one has to only enter the cost per Kilowatt-Hour (kWh).There are two example workbooks provided to give the user an idea.

The energy loss workbook can be used to approximate energy loss in under-insulated areas, like a basement. When the obtained data is entered, this workbook gives you the energy loss, cost of electrical power, and cost of natural gas that would be required. An example of a living room wall is provided, to enhance understandability.

The heating estimator and the duct heat loss workbook are based on the thermal concepts of heat and mass transfer. Don’t worry, there’s no gobbledygook involved. Every formula has been pre-loaded into the files. The heating estimator calculates the rating of an insulating system for a specific area. For people who have their outdoor air conditioning units far away from the indoor unit, the duct heat loss workbook can help to calculate the possible energy loss that may occur in the ducts.

There is also a guide on the usage of these energy calculators. This provides a comprehensive text that will enable the user to calculate easily.

Another feature of this kit is all units are standard units, or British Thermal Units (BTU).

The best part of the kit is the Home Buyer Energy Checklist. Though it seems a bit longer than a shopping list, it helps prospective buyers find appropriate homes. If one uses this checklist, the hidden energy costs associated with a house can be minimized. The guide wants you to ask the realtor questions on the basement, attic, and fireplace; you name it. Its there!

There is a complete list of Frequently Asked Questions in the “Complete Guide to Energy Saving” book. Heating and cooling, tips on appliances and energy conservation constitute major part of this book. There are a lot of tips on every topic, and one would wonder if every single issue could make a difference. This book more or less summarizes the contents of the DIY Energy Saving Kit.

This kit lives up to its title. One can do everything by oneself, and end up saving a significant amount each year. A piece of advice; as mentioned earlier, this kit encourages you to do outdoor audits as well. If your neighbors think you are paranoid, let them do so.
Simply don’t care. It is you who’s going to save on energy costs. You may end up losing your mind, but do not let madness hinder your audit process. This kit is a scientific compilation, takes practicality into account and can potentially produce good results.

Click here to go to the DIY energy saving kit website

There’s a little MacGyver in each of us. And if you top this with a need do save some money or a certain eco-friendliness, than you might find yourself tinkering a solar panel or wind generator quite soon. You might need a guide, and this review is trying to find out if Do It Yourself Green Energy eBook (available at diy green energy) is capable of helping you in that way.

the cover - DIY green energy

After a short introduction presenting you with the reasons why you might want to switch to alternative off-grid sources of electricity and the savings you might gain, the book takes you through the processes of building a solar panel, a wind generator, the power generating system and the basics of Biodiesel production.

But let’s pause on the introduction itself for a few seconds and let me quote the author of this e-book: “Adjust your thermostat. In the winter, set it at 68 – 70ºF when you’re home, and 62ºF when you’re away or in bed. In the summer, set it to 74-76ºF when you are home and 82ºF when you are away.” Now, it might all be about preferences, but that sounds at least a bit odd. Why would I want to over-heat my home in the summer while I’m away? Sources argue about these values, as the best temperature for comfort should be around 78ºF. The author is clearly aiming for that temperature by leveling it with home/away temperature differences. But this mostly depends on your A/C and its properties. You might end up consuming a lot more by trying to obtain the best temperature as an average rather than directly. Please note that setting the temperature in your habitat has also a lot to do with your body’s preferences and your health.

The next chapter deals with the way you can build a solar panel right in your back yard, starting from scratch: how to choose the cells, how to wire them together, and how to frame the entire ensemble. Unfortunately, the author fails to show the real costs of setting a solar panel based energy generator, as he clearly states that home wiring itself should be done by a professional. Depending on your home and the existing wiring system, this part might boost your investments pretty much.

Also, the author simply jumps from building the solar panel to the next chapter, which deals with wind generated energy. He forgets to tell how to set the panels themselves so they can indeed be efficient! He says nothing about the angles, when to change the angles, and how to protect and maintain the solar cells periodically. If not careful, you might find yourself the owner of a solar panel array that barely captures enough solar energy to light a bulb.

Moving on, I’d like to notice that this e-book is mostly dedicated to US customers, as the author uses eBay as the best way of buying parts for the solar or wind energy generating solutions he’s presenting here. If you live in other parts of the world, shipping of the parts might even double the price of your investment, and suddenly things don’t look so good anymore. It all depends on your luck and whether you’ll find a close provider or not.

As an example of how the eBay system might not be the best, let’s analyze the choosing of the DC motor for your wind power generator, as proposed by the author. For this, he recommends buying a 30 VDC Ametek Wind Generator for the price of $107, and uses an eBay page print screen as example. Out of curiosity, I’ve searched the eBay for the same motor with the same properties but unfortunately enough, I couldn’t find it for less than $170, not including shipment taxes. Worse even, the seller of that motor stated that “$15.00 service charge will be applied in addition to the shipping fees to all international shipments. Warranty will be voided on items shipped internationally”, which brings me to a total of at least $240, if I include shipment. That far more than doubles the suggested price in this book. But I’ve calculated this for overseas shipment. Even so, as a resident of the US the motor would cost me double the price the author suggested. Moreover, the very next day, it was sold!

As you can see, it’s a matter of sheer luck when choosing some of the parts. The author might have found a very good deal but someone reading the book might not have the chance, or might have to wait quite some time for it, while checking the offers periodically.

At the end of the chapter regarding wind generators, the author gives an example of an already build system on eBay, that costs $199 as BuyItNow item. I’ve checked it myself, and the product has warranty, it’s already built, and… IT WAS CHEAPER THAN BUILDING IT AT HOME! With a blocking device built in and being weatherproofed, it sounded like a far better solution than its home-built counter-part.

The author estimates the costs for a home-made device at $262 and compares it with commercial prices that start at $899. What he fails to say is that commercial devices with that price come also come with a tower to support the wind generator. And it might not seem so, but the tower might be the hardest part to build. There are a lot of factors to take in consideration, and I would prefer a verified tower instead of being chased by high speed aluminum blades flying all over with the first occasion, as my home build tower couldn’t stand strong winds. Calibrating such a system is a painstaking task, as a small home build device MUST be protected against strong winds, must have a blocking device and a tower that can guarantee its safety. Unfortunately, the author fails to give precise information about this part.

could have been better

Instead, the book jumps right at how to setup your home generator using solar and/or wind power. Fortunately, it clearly states that it is very important to consult a qualified electrician prior to attempting any work on the home electric system (a warning that is stated repeatedly around this chapter). Actually, this part of the book has at least a few inconsistencies: the parts required are mostly enumerated and presented, without a price range and sometimes with missing links in the descriptions.

A chapter about how to get your state and federal rebates follows, but as the author says, it can be simply skipped, as it’s mainly aimed at US citizens. However, the subject is intriguing, and one should at least consider checking out the local laws, as the savings that a similar governmental program in your country might bring you are substantial.

Last chapter deals with Biodiesel: how to obtain it and how to setup an off grid system using wind, solar and Biodiesel power and it’s more of a well written introduction to Biodiesel production and storage strategies. As with the rest of the book, additional research is required.

And that is how this e-book should be seen: as merely an introductive course to homemade energy solutions. It doesn’t offer the full scale view, and at some parts it’s simply poorly written or incomplete, but if you are curious enough about the subject, Do It Yourself: Green Energy eBook can be a good starting point. I definitely not recommend using the book alone. For most parts, additional and extended research on the subject is required. Check your local weather conditions, solutions providers, prices and regulations before attempting to go head-on and build a self sustained or grid-additional energy production system.

Getting strucked by lightning

Every now and then I’m struck with a moment of inspiration. Sometimes it’s productive, forward-thinking and important, but more often it’s just a little weird. When I’m playing with all my homemade electricity generating gadgets, I always seem to think up the weirdest scenarios and questions. This brings me to my most recent one: How much electricity can the human body take?

Obviously I want to know how much it can take pre-death. I’m not talking about tasing a body and recording the results. That’s no fun, just slightly psychotic and disturbing. I’ve always wondered how much electricity it takes to push a human over the barrier. As useless as this information might seem, it could come in useful should you want to pull some electricity themed human stunt (which I certainly don’t recommend).

Now, it’s important to differentiate between the different measures of electricity. It’s a commonly held belief that voltage can kill you, which is less than true. The human body can handle thousands of volts without harm, which is why tasers and other electronic immobility devices can have such a high voltage rating without any danger of killing or permanently injuring people.

In order to kill someone, there would need to be a combination of voltage and current running through their body. Voltage along doesn’t kill a human, or even likely harm one. A steady stream of voltage and current running to the heart and other vital organs would cause damage to a human body, ranging from light damage to permanent damage and death as the current increases.

There’s a third factor that you need to consider, which is the variable resistance that a human body can produce to combat the flow of electricity. Human bodies aren’t fantastic resistors, but they do provide some resistance to electrical flow. The higher the level of resistance, the lower the lower the flow of voltages. How is this important to calculating how much electricity a human can take? Well, the lower the flow of voltages throughout the human body, the greater the amount of electricity the body can take, and the lower the risk of death by electrocution.

If you need an uber-geeky tutorial on electrical currents, check out this equation:

I = E / R

Think of ‘I’ as the current, E as the voltage, and R as the resistance. When you put a voltage next to a high level of resistance, it’ll diminish in its results. You’ve got to be careful about this calculation, as often on the human body outside factors are introduced. If you’re wet when you’re electrocuted, you’ll be less resistant and more likely to die of electrocution. On the other hand, a relatively dry body will provide more resistance due to the lower levels of highly conductive moisture.

Hopefully this nerdy science lesson answered a few of your questions, and imprinted you with the idea to never, ever try and test this theory. While it’s unclear how much electricity a human body can take, it’s generally accepted that even low amounts of current can permanently damage the human body. Let this one stay as a bizarre thought in your head, not a thesis for a science experiment.

I know this is a little out of my element but I still think it’s interesting to see how an alternator works.

The name alternator is derived from the term AC which is an abbreviation of alternative current. An alternator is one of the three major parts of a charging system in a vehicle which produces power for the electrical components like the instrument panel, lights on the interior as well as the exterior of the car, radio, air conditioner etc. have you ever wondered how the alternator works and how does it produce electricity? You may be thinking that the buttery is giving all the necessary powers to run all the electrical components in your vehicle. This is absolutely true but in reality the necessary power comes from the gas tank of your vehicle. An alternator is the link between your gas tank and the battery of your vehicle.
The alternator has an aluminum casing on the outer side and the rotors and stators are within the alternator. The alternator is a kind of generator which is known for transforming mechanical energy into electrical energy. There are three sets of different windings wound on the iron stator frame which is round in shape. Each winding consist of seven coils which are basically made up of number of different loops and are connected to each other in series with an intention to increase the total output of the voltage. There are therefore only two leads of winding which acts as the way for the inflow and outflow of the current. The leads of the windings are in wired in a Y-configuration in which one third of the stator is actually occupied by the three sets of windings. Each and every group of winding is expected to produce energy during one third of every revolution. Each phase of the winding consists of around 120 degrees out of the 360 degrees circular stator. Due to the three phase of AC, the energy which is generated when the rotor comes in contact with the start is variable

The rotor generally has a lot of components, but the most important ones are the two slip rings which act as a connector of the coil wire to the battery of the car. Diodes become pretty important in case of a car as they require direct current. Diodes can be used as the alternating current is variable between the positive and negative current. The current is generated when the rotor poles revolve inside one of the stator coils. With the help of the diodes you the alternating current can be converted into direct current and this process is also known as rectification.
Once the energy is converted into direct current voltage regulators play an important role to determine the level of energy to be outpoured from diode. This is how an alternator generates electricity.

Earth4Energy is an uncomplicated E-book which details the reader about how to conserve energy and reduce the ever increasing energy costs that the inhabitants of today’s technologically advanced world have to deal with. Environmentalists, scientists as well as the common public is very well aware of the fact that the concern about the swelling energy bills and the importance of saving energy in today’s power hungry world are both very important topics today. The book uses the concept of free energy generator building to accomplish this.

The electronic book Earth4Energy is written in simple, user friendly language and complicated terminology is avoided wherever possible. Through the book the cause of spreading and teaching among the masses, various means and methods of saving, conserving and utilizing exhaustive resources is being undertaken. The book teaches the common people, without any sophisticated machinery, tools and capital the ways to create energy conserving devices at a budget friendly price. These devices not only help to conserve energy at individual levels but also provide an alternative to the conventional expensive energy resources, thereby helping to save on money.

Earth4Energy also attempts, rather successfully, to answer the ethical questions about the reduction of the commercialization of nature for power and the advantages of self sufficiency when it comes to developing as well as utilizing one’s own energy from natural sources. In this scenario, using free energy solar panels and free energy power of the wind makes a lot of sense.

This electronic book is priceless in more ways than one. Why is it priceless? The book priceless in many aspects. It not only makes you less dependent on the commercial energy and power resources, by teaching you how to generate energy through various natural resources, it also makes you aware of the need to conserve on the exhaustible resources and suggests some ways on how to do so. This book is a boon at all levels, individual, state as well as national.

Its style is much like an instruction manual, with the help of which you can easily build your very own solar powered or wind driven electric generator. Therefore, the many advantages of using this electronic book are:

You utilize naturally renewable and non exhaustible sources of energy. Therefore, you rely less and less on the use of fossil fuels to gather energy from. Therefore, you play an important role in the process of promoting manufacture and use of environment friendly energy.

You generate your own energy using naturally occurring, freely available sources. Therefore, you slowly and surely are able to decrease the amount of money that you spend in order to buy power from commercial power giants and companies. This way, you save a tremendous amount of money not only in the long run, but immediately after you have installed your own generator according to the instructions given in the book.

It helps you to reduce your carbon footprint as well as the carbon foot print of your country.

You gather a sense of self assured independence when it comes to energy. No more dreading company strikes of black outs. Ever.

You learn a new and valuable life skill, which you can use just about anywhere in the world.

The electric generators that you are taught to make are low cost and can easily be installed without spending loads of money. Therefore, the investment pays for itself very shortly.

The language of the book is user friendly and tremendously painless to understand. You wont have any problems deciphering the instructions given in the book as they are written in simple, easy, understandable language. The whole book is just seventy three pages long. That is it. Just seventy odd pages. No lengthy abstractions, no painfully convoluted phrases. Nothing but plain and simple instructions, and clear figures.

Where on one hand, the commercially available electric generators are very expensive, the generators which are to be assembled by following the instructions in the book Earth4Energy are way more inexpensive and less costlier than their

traditional/commercial counterparts. The traditional generators cost somewhere around $5000, where as it will cost you only $250 to assemble your own generators.

CONVENIENCE

The electronic book can be accessed immediately after purchase….no waiting for shipping. Read it directly on the computer screen, or, if this does not suit your style or comfort, simply print the seventy three pages and read however you want. Since the number of pages is very less compared to most electronic manuals, you can easily go for the option number two.

REQUIREMENTS

BUILDING SKILLS REQUIRED: You don’t have to be a first class electronic engineer in order to follow the instructions given in the electronic book. Years of fixing and repairing stuff around the house would probably have given you all the experience and skill you need to complete this project. For example, everyone, or almost everyone knows how to use simple tools like a jigsaw, a soldering iron, a hammer, electric drill or maybe a screw driver. Some simple skills like sawing, painting and such are also required.

Do keep in mind, though, that if you want to integrate your self created electric power into the circuit of your home, or if you want to sell back the excess energy that you save to the power company, then you will definitely have to consult a licensed electrician.

BASIC TOOL AND INSTRUMENTS REQUIRED: As already mentioned before, under the previous topic, simple and basic instruments like a jigsaw, a hammer, a saw which can either be a hand saw or a circular saw, a soldering iron, an electric drill and a socket set will be required. Other tools that you will be needing are given below:

A file

A hand sander

Some screw drivers of various shapes and sizes

Paint brushes

You get the drift. Nothing too complicated or technical. Just your standard, familiar everyday instruments and tools. In fact, you possibly already have most of this equipment stashed away in your toolbox in the basement. Well, it is now time to get your toolbox out and use it for something great!

THE AMOUNT OF TIME REQUIRED: Well time factor obviously depends a lot on the level of mechanical skill of the worker, but for an average worker with modest tool skills it can take around a week or so to put together one solar panel or one wind mill. For the more experienced worker, a weekend is usually enough. Remember, being organized and committed to your work certainly helps in reducing the required time frame.

DISADVANTAGES

Perhaps the only disadvantage of the book is the fact that the step by step instructions may not lead to the results that are exactly same as the results that the author got. That is to say, that a little flexibility may be required. However, the author does mention this fact in the book itself, so it should not be a bone of contention, especially because the actual results, though they may not be the exact replicas of the author’s result, are as viable and functional as you need. Therefore, this is only a technical drawback.

Some people may find the lack of detailing in a few areas a little frustrating, but it was a necessary step taken in order to reduce the possibility of a long, winding text.

A suggestion would be to add an accompanying video. This can help the reader understand the procedure much better.

ADVANTAGES AND BENEFITS

As mentioned before, the clear and uncomplicated way in which the book is written is endearing as well as practical.
Free energy? If you’d told me I could get it a year ago, I would have probably laughed at your face and told you to get lost. But now….I’m a believer. Around 14 months ago, one of my friends told me about this great magnetic free energy generator he’d bought off the Internet. He lived in another state so I had no idea if he was fibbing or not. I still wasn’t convinced when he sent me his electricity bill, which was shockingly low. My brain still told me he was pulling my leg. So he gave me the link to the Magnetic Power Generator website. I was still debating whether to get it or not till I saw the 60 day money back guarantee and I thought, “Why the heck not?”.

I paid the money on the spot, and within minutes, I had in my inbox a fifty page copy of the Do It Yourself guide. I still had a foreboding at this point mind you, as I wasn’t really sure how I’d actually go around building this generator. Sure, its all good when you have professionals come and set up equipment at your home, but this was a totally different ballgame altogether: I’d have to build this myself. I set aside a weekend for building the free energy generator and when I actually got down to building it, I found it wasn’t all that tough at all.

The materials required, firstly, were quite easily obtained. It’s what you’d find in almost every hardware store around the corner. The tools too where quite common and probably something you had worked with before doing odd jobs around the house. Screwdrivers, drill, saw, nuts and bolts and you had most of the stuff you needed to get started. Assembly was quite simple due to the step by step instructions in the manual. The instructions were excellent- simple, clear, concise and very easy to follow. As an added bonus, they’d even predicted what problems you might encounter, and had fixes for that too! Though I’m not too technically endowed, I had no problems at all getting the job done and even a complete novice at such jobs would complete it in his sleep. The time required, though not very short, was well worth the effort in the end.

I was a little worried about the safety aspect though, so after I had it setup and working (at least I thought it did), I had a certified electrician give it a once over. Much to my surprise and relief, I was told the generator was completely safe. No danger of burning up, electrocution, dangerous moving parts or harmful byproducts. In his words, “It’s the real McCoy sir. I’d trust my infant son with it.” That settled the matter. Now, I’m your average middle class working guy. The reason I bought this DIY manual in the first place was to cut my enormous electricity bills. As many of you probably know, energy and fuel are the single biggest parts of your monthly expenditure, and if I could somehow cut down on one of them, I’m grabbing the opportunity.

I have no way of checking my electricity bill on a daily basis, so I hooked up a couple of rooms with the generator and waited for the monthly bill to arrive. Fortunately, I’d installed the generator in the first week of the month itself, so I’d get a fair idea of how well it ran. The bill arrived and frankly speaking, I was amazed. A 40% drop in the bill had my wife wanting me quit my job and hook up the entire house with the generator. If you’re the average fellow reading this, I’m sure you know how much 40% of an average electricity bill is. Now, not only can I get clean and free energy, I can even indulge in small things which I couldn’t afford earlier as I was nearly always cash strapped with all the bills that kept piling up.

Enough about the bill. The generator is a small thing, and will easily fit into the corner of any garage, or even a small sized room. It doesn’t require much space to run, and no energy inputs in the form of electricity or gas as it is completely based on magnets which power the generator perpetually with no outside inputs. It is completely self sufficient and you don’t need to do anything at all once it’s started. The generator is completely pollution free and emits no by products whatsoever. There are no noxious fumes generally associated with standard gas based/electricity based generators.

Does all this seem a little hard to digest? It was for me too. Why have I never heard of this, was my question? The answer is simple. The technology was developed long ago, but it has since been suppressed by the big energy companies as such a technology would threaten their very existence. Who wants to pay for energy when they can make their own for free? Not me. And I don’t think you’d want to either. MagniWork free energy generator is the answer to all your problems. This little beauty of a DIY guide has helped me cut my energy bills to nearly half and soon I plan to hook up my entire house with the generator, and enjoy clean, free energy for the rest of my life. I’ve even helped a couple of my relatives set up the generator in their homes, with great success.

As with any technology, you are bound to run into problems some time or the other and MagniWork is no different- its runs into problems every now and then; it is completely unreasonable for anything to run perfectly forever. Here too MagniWork comes out on tops. Their customer support is excellent and they got back to me within 24 hours of me having lodged a complaint with their support team. The support was clear and very helpful, I had the problem sorted in a few minutes. If you still don’t believe me, why don’t you give it a try? They have a 60 day money back guarantee if you don’t cut your energy bills, though I doubt you’ll have to avail of that offer. What is a couple of hundred dollars when you save THOUSANDS every year? Still have doubts ?? Go to the site and check it out

How does lemon juice conduct electricity ?

Well that’s a question many asks.
A battery made out of a lemon is a gimmick used in various textbooks in schools all over the world.
The experiment usually consist of using two various metal conductors, it could be a nail covered with zinc (galvanized) and a quarter or any other
coin made out of copper. You will then have to insert the two items into the lemon. The coin and the nail will become electrodes and cause a kind of electrochemical reaction
and generate a minor electric potential. The reason for caring out experiments like this is to demonstrate for the pupils or students how a normal day battery works. When the lemon battery is put
together, a device called a multimeter will be able to the amount of voltage generated. To create a more convincing experiment, it’s possible to add more lemon batteries and produce enough current for a LED.
It’s not really possible to power a flashlight bulb since the lemon can’t bring out enough of current that is required for lighting up such kind of bulbs.
The electric current that is being used to electrify the circuit comes straight from energy in electrode factories that help reduce the metallic ions shaping the firm metallic etrodes. The lemon
merely offers a salt passage for a reaction to happen. In a battery made out of a lemon, oxidation will happen and so will reduction. Think about a battery (zinc copper). The

anode, zinc is oxidised.

“Zn → Zn2+ + 2 e-”
Cathode, hydrogen is brought down:

2H++ 2e- → H2

An apple or a potatoe or other fruits for that matter that consist or contain of acid or any other solution/electrolyte is useable in this experiment, even though lemons are the best to use since they
contain muh higher acidity. Metal combinations like magnesium copper is even more effective. Take for instance magnesium strip use it in replacement of zinc and that will higher the power 1,1 V
using zinc and upto 1,6 Volt using magnesium, the lemons determine the precise voltage. Most prefer to zinc and the very accessible copper because of the safety.

Check out this video tutorial how to create your own lemon battery.
